Soil preparation can make all the difference
With summer certainly on its way, it’s a great time to get some new plants in the ground and make sure your established garden is ready for the hotter months.
There are a number of things you can do to help establish your new plants and give them the best possible chance to flourish.
In established gardens particularly, it’s easy to overlook simple things like soil quality. “Plants have been growing there for years, I don’t need to improve the soil”. There are lot of soil improvers and additives that are cheap but extremely effective and can make a significant difference when it comes to the soil retaining moisture over the summer months. Alternatively, you can replace the existing soil / sand (in some people’s cases) with new. Most landscaping suppliers have a variety of different soil mixes and can arrange bulk delivery.
Cooler weather and increasing rainfall means you can water less.
With winter certainly on the way, the recent Perth storms have put an end to the beautiful, yet unseasonal weather Perth has had through autumn. After the recent rain Perth has received, it's time to start cutting back on watering times.
With cooler temperatures and some rainfall, the soil does not lose it’s moisture as quickly as it did over the summer months. Because of this, you can reduce your watering times and still have a healthy garden.
Preparation is the key!
Have you ever noticed how bad uneven paving looks? There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure the paving you are doing looks good for years to come.
A common mistake made by DIYers is that they spend hours getting sand level before laying but don't bother to prepare the site properly before hand.
