A common mistake made by DIYers is that they spend hours getting sand level before laying but don't bother to prepare the site properly before hand.
In Perth's sandy suburbs, poor compaction will almost certainly result in uneven paving. A layer of road base underneat the final layer of paving sand will also significantly reduce sinking even in heavy traffic areas.
Many landscaping suppliers hire compactors. Why not use one? The small amount of extra money now could save a huge amount of rework later.
