It’s a great time to plant!

Soil preparation can make all the difference

  • It’s a great time to plant!

With summer certainly on its way, it’s a great time to get some new plants in the ground and make sure your established garden is ready for the hotter months.
There are a number of things you can do to help establish your new plants and give them the best possible chance to flourish.

In established gardens particularly, it’s easy to overlook simple things like soil quality.  “Plants have been growing there for years, I don’t need to improve the soil”.  There are lot of soil improvers and additives that are cheap but extremely effective and can make a significant difference when it comes to the soil retaining moisture over the summer months.  Alternatively, you can replace the existing soil / sand (in some people’s cases) with new.  Most landscaping suppliers have a variety of different soil mixes and can arrange bulk delivery.

Spring is also a good time of year to fertilise.  There are lots of different types of fertilisers and plant foods on the market.  Ask your local landscaping supplier which is right for the plants you have.

Once planted, it’s important to mulch a garden to help prevent weed growth and retain moisture in the soil.  There are many different types of mulch that as well as being practical can transform the look of your garden.  Like soil, many landscaping suppliers can deliver this to you in bulk.
